The only instrument that reliably measures rag layer and interface in real crude separators
Radar sees the top, nucleonics cost a fortune, capacitance drifts. The 12400 with two or three displacers of different weights gives you real interface level and emulsion thickness even when the rag layer is 500 mm thick and full of sand. Offshore platforms, refineries, and upstream separators have been running them for decades because nothing else works when the oil is heavy and dirty.
| Typical config | 2 or 3 displacers |
| Density range | 0.5 – 1.3 sg |
| Interface accuracy | ±25 mm typical in rag layer |
| Max pressure | ANSI 900 / PN160 common |
Q: How do I know the displacer isn’t coated?
A: The torque tube still moves – if output changes when level changes, it’s clean.
